Aside from air travel, you can also enter Bhutan by road from neighboring India. Three border crossings cater to tourists:

• Phuentsholing: This border town connects to Jaigoan, West Bengal. Hasimara is the closest train station, while Bagdogra Airport offers domestic and international flights to Paro, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bangkok. It is a 4-hour drive from Bagdogra to Phuentsholing. It takes around 6 hours to reach Thimphu, the capital, from Phuentsholing.

• Samdrup Jongkhar: borders Guwahati, Assam. This entry point has Guwahati International Airport nearby. The 3-hour drive to Samdrup Jongkhar is followed by a longer journey (minimum 3 days) to Thimphu via the captivating Dzongkhags (districts) of Trashigang, Mongar, Bumthang, Trongsa, and Wangdue Phodrang.

• Gelephu: Located in southern Bhutan, Gelephu offers a distinct travel experience. On this 10-hour journey to Thimphu, you will travel through subtropical areas as well as Bhutan’s alpine zone.
